The Messiah Series
MESSIAH debuted at Fern Street Gallery in Gerringong NSW. The show ran from July 25 – Aug 7, 2022. It was a ‘pinch me’ experience. The Seven paintings all hanging together in this beautiful space was a sight to behold and I couldn’t have been happier with the response . Collectors snapped up the original art and visitors who not only enjoyed the exhibit and gave me such great feedback, took a little piece of ‘Messiah ‘ away with them in the form of a limited edition print, a collectors series journal or a 100% silk limited edition scarf. There are still some paintings and limited edition items available.
MESSIAH consists of seven paintings, each one is one metre square.
The seven paintings explore seven names and or character traits of the Moshiach Nagid: The Messiah King.
There is no character or person depicted more in art or art history than Jesus Christ . Perhaps Mary comes a close second and that’s because she is his mother . From pre-birth to birth, death and beyond , every moment we’ve been given knowledge of thru testimony has been depicted through the eyes , talent , emotion and style of an artist . Two of my favourites are Dali and Carravaggio. Both artists iconoclastic in their era, create a kind of shock factor through their dramatic depictions . These paintings are breathtaking . Dali in his choice of perspective and Carravagio for his high contrast style, the emotional content and the sense of immediacy and raw humanity that he gives to both Jesus and those around him.
But everyone else has painted him as a person . As an abstract expressionist I wanted to paint his emotions – his energy and spirit – Jesus Christ, Hamashiach Nagid, The Messiah King.
I am particularly interested in the way the divine and mankind interact, make contact and commune or blend together with one another. The humanity of Christ and the divinity of man interest me. This thin veil that that has been pierced, this chasm that has been crossed, allowing one to unite and communicate with the other.
Based on the Judeo Christian faith, the names are in Hebrew, Greek, and English. They take their text and meaning from ancient Jewish poems and prose. Each painting features a single colour and the many hues and values of that colour. Each colour represents and embodies the meaning of that name and trait. Each painting has a title and a subtitle further expanding on that theme. There are seven paintings as the meaning of seven is perfection.

REVELATION
REVELATION – The Rider On The White Horse
The inspiration for this painting comes directly from The Revelation of Saint John.
‘I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse.
Whose rider is name is Faithful and True.’ Revelation 19 v 11.
This painting is full of hidden meaning. White on white. The written word.
One eye open One eye closed. The sky is crying and it opens up with two streams of light.
Some of the marks depict a name written, that no one knows but He himself.
White on white was a challenge but I’m happy to say this painting contains all the elements that embody The Rider On The White Horse.

SHEPHERD
SHEPHERD – I Lack No Good Thing
The inspiration for this painting comes from an ancient Hebrew poem written by a shepherd boy who eventually becomes the king . King David . This poem was set to music written on stringed instruments he made himself. The title and subtitle come from Psalm 23. Green meaning abundance, health, prosperity.

Dunamis means power in Greek . I wanted this painting to explode off the canvas with power and I think I achieved that ! Purple has long been associated with royalty , the power of a King . Purple is also associated with wisdom , mystery , bravery, and spirituality.

DEEP
DEEP – Surrounded By Thick Darkness
Deep knowledge or deep wisdom is not found on the surface. It is hidden and requires digging or experience or longevity to know, to comprehend and to understand. I chose a geometrical design for this painting. The deeper you delve into mathematics and geometry the more mysterious and quantum it becomes. Artists and scientists alike have long looked for patterns in nature like the fibonacci numbers or the ability to generate a truly random number. I find it fascinating that maths and geometry something we think is easily accessible , like 1 + 1 = 2, is at it’s core, unreachable, unobtainable. It’s deep. So it is also with God, Spirit, Nature, Creation . The more we find out, the less we know. Psalm 92:2, Psalm 18:11

GLORY – This painting depicts another world, a world of mystery and eternity.
It’s high up in the sky, in the clouds, the crown of life , the sea of glass , a far away kingdom.
